Superintendent's Update - September 14, 2021

Good Morning Washington Local,

This week, a series of celebrations honoring Americans will continue. On Saturday, September 11, we remembered almost 3,000 souls lost in an attack on our country and the first responders who ran toward danger in a heroic effort to save lives. On Friday, September 17, we celebrate the 234th anniversary of the Constitution and Citizenship Day. At Friday's home football game, Veterans will be honored before and during the game. The Whitmer Social Studies and Athletic Departments will bring back the tradition to honor our hometown heroes. We hope you can join us at the game! Remember, all tickets are now purchased online.

Did you know about 60% of our students use Washington Local transportation? Our drivers and monitors are doing a great job getting kids safely to school each day. Please remember that masks are required on Washington Local buses. We want our drivers and monitors to stay healthy and to be able to continue to transport our students. This week, we will begin issuing a reminder to any student not properly wearing a mask on Washington Local transportation. After this reminder, students could lose transportation privileges if they are not wearing a mask while riding. This is a Federal Transportation Department mandate and is in place to keep our kids, drivers, and monitors safe and also to prevent quarantines. Please remind your students to wear their masks so they can continue to use Washington Local transportation services and we can keep schools open for in-person instruction.

Just as a reminder, next week one of the great Washington Local traditions returns -- the Snake Dance. We are looking forward to seeing everyone next Thursday, September 23 at 5:00 PM. We hope to see you this Friday to cheer for our Veterans and our Panthers and next week to share in the return of a great tradition! Be well!
