Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Scholarship


Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Toledo Alumnae Chapter has established a scholarship fund for African-American/Hispanic female high school seniors who wish to enroll in a four-year degree program on a full–time basis at any accredited college or university. The scholarship will be awarded to the most well rounded candidate based on scholarship, community service and financial need.  


Candidates must hold an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Candidates must be actively involved in the community. Community involvement may include civic and/or church activities.  Candidates whose grandmothers, mother or sisters are members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are ineligible to receive this scholarship.


Two-four scholarship will be awarded in amounts ranging from $500-$1,000. 


Scholarship Requirements

  1. Complete the Google Form Application

  2. Upload two letters of recommendation - One letter should be from someone willing to speak of candidate’s academic achievement; the other letter should be from someone familiar with candidate’s community involvement. Both letters should speak on candidate’s character and personal background.  Letters from family members/relatives will not be accepted.

  3. Upload your current academic High School transcript – should include candidate’s overall GPA and ACT/SAT test results.


The deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 31, 2023.

Point Place Business Association Scholarship

The Point Place Scholarship Foundation awards several scholarships each year to High School seniors in the Point Place/Shoreland area. We invite you to apply for a  scholarship.


Scholarship Eligibility:

1. You must be a senior in high school and live in the 43611 Zip code
2. You cannot be related to a member of the Point Place Business Association

Scholarship Requirements:

- Fill out the required application form

- Request a copy of your official high school transcript

- Submit a letter of intent

- Submit a letter from your parent(s) or legal guardian

- Submit two letters of recommendation from adults that are not related to you and have known you for at least a year

Girls on the Run Alumnae Scholarship

Calling all Girls on the Run Alumnae! As a past program participant of Girls on the Run and/or Heart & Sole, you know our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. We believe every girl has the ability to boldly pursue her dreams.

To help continue supporting those dreams, we are offering a Girls on the Run alumnae scholarship opportunity for high school seniors graduating in 2023.


Details:

  1. The recipient of the Girls on the Run scholarship will receive $1000.00. It may be used for any post-secondary expense (books, college fees, etc.).

  3. Answer 2 short essay questions about your Girls on the Run experience and the impact it has had on your life along with the details of what school you attended and program you completed.

Horace and Letitia Newton Scholarship Fund


Description
This fund was established by Horace & Letitia Newton to provide scholarship grants to graduates of Toledo area schools.
Applicants must be a senior at, or a graduate of, a Toledo high school, have demonstrated financial need, and academic achievement.


Scholarship Amounts:
The number of scholarships granted each year, as well as their amounts, will vary based on funds available and the number of qualified applicants. Scholarships granted from this fund are meant to be an integral part of the student's total financial aid package. Therefore, recipients must notify College Now Greater Cleveland of any and all other financial aid received. This may or may not result in an adjustment to the amount awarded from this scholarship fund.


Requirements:

In order to qualify for the Horace and Letitia Newton Scholarship you must:

  • Applicant must be a senior at, or a graduate of, a Toledo area high school.

  • Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited college or university for the full term of the scholarship.

  • Submit a copy of your most recent academic transcript.  Applicant must have above-average grades. This requirement will generally be interpreted to be satisfied by a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Applicant must not be an employee of KeyBank National Association or any of its affiliates. Immediate relatives of any such employees are also ineligible.

Previous recipients can reapply and may receive the funds for up to five (5) years.

This scholarship is not renewable, but you may reapply each year that you wish to continue receiving funds or until you complete your degree (up to 5 total years). We cannot make any guarantees that previous recipients will receive the scholarship again or that the award will be the same amount.

Payments:
Scholarship payments will be made in one disbursement directly to your institution and will be split between fall and spring semesters.

Please make sure the email you provide on the application is active and checked regularly. All important information regarding your scholarship status, missing documents, and deadlines will be sent to that email.  Be sure to regularly check your spam or junk folder in case any communication is not coming through to your inbox.

Directions Credit Union Scholarship

Directions is offering post-secondary scholarships for full time students of accredited colleges, community colleges, and vocational/trade schools. 12 - $1,000 in total scholarships will be awarded. To apply, student or a family member must be a member of Directions Credit Union. The application can be found in the Counseling Center. The application deadline is March 18, 2023.


Kurdys Family Scholarship Application

This scholarship will honor a student who will attend a 4-year college to obtain a degree in Math or Science.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

- Must have a 3.5 or higher GPA

- Must have a B or higher in all Math or Science courses

- Must be attending a 4 year college to obtain a degree in Math or Science or a Math or Science related field (such as pre-Med or Nursing, Engineering)

- Has not received financial aid which exceeds one-half of the actual college expenses for freshman year (not including aid from parents)

- Be a well-rounded student with academic achievement, involvement in the community and involvement in school activities and/or athletics.


APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Essay question of 250-300 words typed, double-spaced with a 12 pt. font on one of the following prompts.


1.  What is one thing you are proud of and why?

2.  Describe why you feel you are the best candidate to receive the scholarship.

OR

3. What is one regret or mistake you have made that you learned a valuable life lesson?


RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation letter from a teacher, employer, counselor, community leader or other appropriate person who is not a family member.

Kurdys Family Scholarship Application



Conn-Weissenberger American Legion Post Scholarship 

Conn-Weissenberger American Legion Post for any accredited trade school or 2 or 4 year college. If you are the child, grandchild or sibling of an American Legion eligible veteran (this includes anyone currently on active duty) one of these scholarships could help with your first year of Trade school or College.

OAPSE/AFSCME Memorial Scholarship

The OAPSE/AFSCME Memorial Scholarship Program is available to children whose parent or legal guardian is a member in good standing of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4/AFL-CIO). Under the program, scholarships of $2,500.00 each are awarded to at least one winner from each of the ten (10) OAPSE Districts selected from the applicants who meet the eligibility requirements.

Any graduating high school senior who is a daughter or son of an active OAPSE/AFSCME member or whose legal guardian is an active OAPSE/AFSCME member and who intends to enroll in a full-time degree program in any two (2) or four (4) year accredited university, college, business or technical school is eligible to apply for a scholarship. The scholarships may be used for any field of study.

To be eligible, all information or supportive documentation requested in the application must be received by the committee by March 1 each year.

Janet Phleger Foundation Scholarship
The Janet Phleger Foundation was established to provide assistance to graduating high school seniors, that have a parent and/or legal guardian that has been affected with cancer, as a cancer survivor, those who may have succumbed to cancer, or those who are currently fighting. 
Award Amount: $3,000
Eligibility:
  • Candidate must have a parent that was diagnosed with cancer.
  • Candidate (or parent/legal guardian) must currently live or work in Toledo and surrounding suburbs.
  • Candidate must be a graduating high school senior.
  • Candidate must be attending an Ohio College or Trade School.
  • Candidate must show financial need.
Application Requirements:
  1. Cover Sheet: This shows that all required documents are included.
  2. Application form: Contact, High School, and College/University Information.
  3. Personal Essay: Submit personal essay discussing how your parent or legal guardian’s battle with cancer has influenced your development and the way you see the world. If you were awarded this scholarship, what would it mean to you? Essay must be 1,000 words or more.
  4. Community and Extracurricular Activities: Submit a list of your community and extracurricular activities.
  5. Letters of Recommendation: Submit 2 letters of recommendation from individuals that can comment on your character (family members and friends are excluded).
  6. SAR Document: Submit your Student Aid Report (SAR)-The report you receive after submitting the (FAFSA).

Glass City Federal Credit Union Scholarship
Eligibility:
Students are eligible to apply for the Glass City Federal Credit Union Scholarship if they meet all of the following criteria:
  1. The student will be attending a 2- or 4-year accredited post-secondary institution during the 2023-24 school year.
  2. The student is a member of Glass City Federal; or a parent, step-parent, or legal guardian is a member of Glass City.
  3. The student submits the required essay and completes the application. (Glass City employees and immediate family members of employees and Board of Directors are not eligible to apply.)
How To Apply:
Please complete and submit the application below with the required essay (the essay topic is listed below in the application)
by March 31, 2023.* Winners will be notified by May 1, 2023.

Scholarship and Essay Details:
Glass City will award five scholarships, one in the amount of $2500 (highest scoring entry); and four in the amount of $1000
each (second to fifth highest scoring entries). The scholarship will be paid to the Office of the Bursar at the colleges attended
by our winners, no later than August 2023. Winners must show proof of enrollment before scholarship payment is sent.

Scholarship essays will be reviewed anonymously by Glass City community business partners. The essays will be scored with
attention given to spelling and grammar, content, validity and sincerity, and the applicant’s ability to answer the question.

The Zeta Phi Beta Scholarship - Zeta Xi Zeta Chapter at The University of Toledo
Two awards of $1000 each - Each award is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
  1. African-American/Black, female student
  2. High school senior graduating from any school in NW Ohio (Verification from guidance counselor or principal)
  3. GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
  1. Completed /signed application coversheet, photo and Personal Statement
  2. Résumé indicating leadership and/or volunteer experience
  3. Official academic transcript with official school seal/stamp
  4. List of 2- or 4-year colleges and universities in which the applicant has been accepted or has applied
  5. Two (2) Reference letters from any of the following non-relative sources: Teacher, School Counselor,
    Church or Community Leader, Supervisor (All professional letters should be signed and on Official Letterhead)
  6. 500-word, typed, double-spaced essay on ONE of the following topics (Please indicate chosen topic)
    ? Describe the financial impact a scholarship will have on your education and your commitment to a college education.
    ? Describe traits of a great leader and how you have demonstrated them in school and your community.
    ? SPECIAL TOPIC: Describe a time where you’ve experienced a loss and how you have coped.

The University of Toledo Rocket Scholarship Day
APPLY NOW to the University of Toledo to determine your eligibility for the annual scholarship competition!
Rocket Scholarship Day is by invitation only! If you have a minimum 3.0 GPA and are admitted to UToledo, you will qualify for an invitation. Your UToledo application should be completed no later that November 11 to guarantee you will receive an admission decision and Rocket Scholarship Day email invitation before the registration deadline. 
Qualified students will go toe-to-toe with fellow future Rockets while using creativity, imagination — and yes, smarts — to win additional funds for college at Rocket Scholarship Day.

More than $200,000 in scholarships were awarded to admitted UToledo students at our last scholarship competition.

Ray Kest old Newsboys Memorial Scholarship
The Ray Kest Old Newsboys Memorial Scholarship Corporation will award thirteen scholarships worth $5,000 each. These scholarships are awarded to seniors enrolled at Toledo area high schools or a state accredited program in the Toledo area. These scholarships can be used to continue your education at a two or four year college or university, business school, trade school, or vocational training of your choosing. Eligibility Requirements
  1. Applicant must be a senior enrolled at a Toledo area high school or state accredited program in the Toledo area
  2. Application must have above average grades. The requirement is generally interpreted as a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
  3. Consideration will be given to each applicant's financial need, scholarship, and character
To qualify for the scholarship, students must submit an application to the selection committee by October 20, 2022. Applications must be competed and all necessary financial information must be included.
The criteria used by the committee in making the awards include the following:
  1. Financial need
  2. Likelihood of obtaining sufficient financial support from other sources to reach the student's stated goals
  3. Academic achievement at the high school level
  4. Involvement in extra-curricular activities and community affairs 
  5. Commitment to completion of preparation for a successful professional or technical career.

Greater Toledo Community Foundation Scholarships
Through the generosity of the regions philanthropic community, Greater Toledo Community Foundation has established multiple scholarship opportunities for graduating high school seniors and current college students in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

With one application, you can apply to over 50 different scholarships at once. In 2021 over $850,000 was awarded in over 300 scholarships. 

Most opportunities are managed through a single universal application which matches applicants to up to 50 scholarships. All scholarship opportunities included on the universal application have a deadline of February 11.

The Bonnie Eddy Educational Supply and Book Grant (BEES-BG)
The NW Region Executive Committee of the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) is comprised of school board members who take pride in providing support to high school seniors demonstrating an interest in the teaching profession. The NW Region and OSBA Scholarship Foundation proudly award a minimum of $2000.00 in educational support annually through the Bonnie Eddy Educational Supply and Book Grant (BEES-BG). All seniors whose school district is a member of OSBA in the Northwest Region are eligible to apply for one of the annual $500.00 BEES-BG awards. The recipients of the BEES-BG are invited guests at one of the Northwest Region’s annual Spring Conferences in March where special recognition is provided to each recipient, as well as their district and its board members.
Selection criteria:
  1. Applicant must be a graduating senior currently enrolled in a school district in the Northwest Region of the OSBA, and have plans to major in teacher education at an accredited college or university in the state of Ohio.
  2. Applicant must have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or greater
  3. Applicant must demonstrate potential as an educational leader demonstrating professional competence, community involvement, and evidence of good character.
Selection process:
  1. Applicants will email or mail their BEES-BG applications for consideration by Dec. 1 to [email protected] or Martha F. Rothey, NW Region BEES-BG application, 7744 W. Watermark Dr., Findlay, OH  45840. 
  2. The NW Region BEES-BG Scholarship Committee will review complete applications and forward selections to the OSBA Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors for ratification. Recipients will be contacted in writing by Feb. 15.
